Regional rail plan will put money in people's pockets

Putting more money into people's pockets... that's my passion. As Mayor of West Yorkshire, it is my driving mission. I want to create a vibrant region, where everyone can succeed, whatever their background.

Growing our economy is the best route to that – creating jobs and opportunities in thriving sectors, from AI and digital to health innovation and creative industries.

To create the right conditions for growth, we need to make sure that people and businesses can get around our region quickly, reliably and affordably.

That's why fellow Yorkshire mayors David Skaith, Oliver Coppard and I, commissioned a review of our region's railways by Lord David Blunkett.

This provides a blueprint for growth across our region, building on the historic White Rose Agreement we signed earlier this year.

Yorkshire was once at the heart of the industrial revolution but is left with a Victorian railway network that is creaking, unreliable and holding 4.6 million people back. Our plan will change that.
