This is the end of a very long era for me.
After 44 years working for NatWest, it is time to retire, which in itself is something I never thought would happen when I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 11 years ago and given just two years to live. As I have been going through the phases of leaving, from final Zoom calls, cutting up access passes and handing back computer equipment, I have taken time to reflect on what a journey it’s been.
When I started in 1981, aged just 16, fresh out of school with only five adequate O levels, I thought I was going to be a cashier.
