But ankle tag 'won't work' outside EU

MADELEINE McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner has vowed to leave Germany after a court ruled his security restrictions unlawful.

The convicted paedophile has been living in a tent in a forest in the north after being freed from jail in September. He wears a tag so authorities can monitor his movements 24/7 for five years.

However it is understood the device will no longer work if he moves outside the EU.

But judges at Germany's Celle upper regional court ruled the law “does not authorise restricting the right of supervision to the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany”. They added: “The convicted person cannot, under threat of punishment, be ordered to live at a particular place.”
