But Rowley defends selection

DEVILS IN HELL!

SALFORD boss Paul Rowley defended his controversial decision to name a second-tier squad for their opener after falling to a record 82-0 defeat.

The Red Devils remain under salary cap restrictions imposed by the RFL, with their takeover yet to be approved.

Salford have been under special measures since November following high-profile their financial issues.

That led to Rowley naming a 16-player squad predominantly made of reserve-grade players, despite having the option to play some of their first-team stars that featured in the Challenge Cup previously.
