Former Villa coach: How Martinez wanted to be world's best keeper

- RYAN TAYLOR

OLD TRAFFORD would be a fitting place to stage Emiliano Martinez's grand Aston Villa finale.

It's not Villa Park, but the Theatre of Dreams is a stadium of significance for the 32-year-old goalkeeper.

He looks poised to consider his future after breaking down in tears following last week's 2-0 triumph over Tottenham.

Unai Emery's World Cup winner, renowned for his leadership and spot-kick heroics, has a reputation as one of the game's best shot-stoppers.

Former Villa goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler played a role in Martinez's development - and has pinpointed the precise moment that the Argentine began to embrace his role as a pantomime villain.

Cutler (right) said: "The one big moment to start with was Manchester United away in 2021. They got a late penalty and Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo were the two players discussing it.
