PM Modi launches Global Biofuel Alliance, calls for 20% ethanol blending with petrol

India is targeting to become carbon neutral by 2070 and is expanding the use of biofuel in its transport sector.
India continued playing its “global leader” role on the first day of the G20 Summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) on Saturday aimed at facilitating cooperation and intensifying the use of sustainable biofuels, including in the transportation sector, and technology transfer for production of biofuels. He also called upon the 20-nation grouping to raise the ethanol blending with petrol to 20%.
It was a proud moment of India’s G20 presidency as Modi announced the creation of the alliance with a plea for working towards 20% blending of ethanol or developing another blending mix that ensures a cut in emissions and stablises energy supply.
