Expect goals and attacking football from SPL bottom side, says new interim coach

With about a third of the 2024-25 Singapore Premier League (SPL) season gone, Tanjong Pagar United are rooted to the bottom of the nine-team table with the fewest number of goals (16) scored.

In an attempt to turn their fortunes around, the struggling Jaguars appointed Hyrizan Jufri as the new interim head coach on Sept 1, replacing Hasrin Jailani.

While this is the 53-year-old's first head coach appointment in the SPL, he is already determined to implement an attacking style of football, even as he starts his stint against second-placed Lion City Sailors at the Jurong East Stadium on Sept 14.

"We're going forward more to score goals," said Hyrizan, who signed a four-month deal. "So I might take some risks on the defenmight take some risks on the defensive side. So you will see more forward play up front and for us, it's just about looking for the goals."

Hyrizan is not an unfamiliar name for some, having played for Tanjong Pagar in 2000 and 2001.
