Among them was former MP Lee Bee Wah, who uploaded a 2019 photo of herself with Hui and his family on Facebook later that day.

During that time, the TVB star and Singapore permanent resident was living in a 4,000 sq ft bungalow in Yishun, together with his Singaporean wife Angeli Lung and their daughter Charmaine Hui. He had moved to Singapore with his family to enjoy a semiretired life.

The area is under Nee Soon GRC, which Ms Lee was an MP for from 2011 to 2020.

Ms Lee, 65, told local news outlet AsiaOne that she was very sad when she learnt of his passing, adding: “I can only say he was a very good person and it’s just too early for him to be gone.”

The last time they spoke was earlier in 2025. “He was based more frequently in Hong Kong recently, but I was supposed to meet him and his family next month in Singapore to attend a friend’s wedding,” she said.

Ms Lee said her strongest recollection of Hui was their first meeting seven or eight years ago at his home.

“I was passing by his house, which was still under renovation, and his whole family was just about to leave. I went up to them and introduced myself as the MP of the area, and we took photos together and exchanged phone numbers.
