Seeking sleep at Hoshinoya Tokyo

TOKYO In December 2023, I check into Hoshinoya Tokyo for a sleep retreat.
I am among the 21 per cent of people in Singapore who sleep fewer than five hours a night, based on a report released in March by international research firm YouGov. The report also revealed that 56 per cent of people in Singapore sleep fewer than seven hours a night.
Japan also ranks high on global sleeplessness. According to survey released by the country's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in October 2023, 45.5 per cent of Japanese workers sleep fewer than six hours a night.
"Many of our guests are not satisfied with their sleep," says Ms Keiko Watanabe, spa and wellness manager at Hoshino Resorts, parent company of Hoshinoya hotels. "They wake up feeling like they have not rested properly, with stiffness in their bodies." Hoshinoya Tokyo launched its Deep Breathing Regimen in 2020.
