Team Asia edges Team Europe out by one point to claim Ascot's annual jockeys' series

Second Silver Saddle For Bowman At Shergar Cup

ASCOT - Champion jockey Hugh Bowman spoke of enjoying the atmosphere and the camaraderie among an international slate of riders on his return to the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup at Ascot on Aug 9, but when the chance to land the Alistair Haggis Silver Saddle awarded to the competition's top rider was on the line, the Australian dug deep to claim his second in three editions.

It was Team Asia who prevailed with 68 points in the main competition comprising six races, with the Shergar Cup going right down to the wire in one of the closest competitions in recent memory.

A rallying Team Europe was edged out by a single point (67 points) in a tense finale, with Team Great Britain and Ireland finishing third on 62 points.

Captained by Hong Kong-based Mauritius jockey Karis Teetan, the Team Rest of the World had to settle for fourth with 55 points.

Bowman got himself and Team Rest of the World off to the perfect start, when he gave the Richard Fahey-trained Vintage Clarets ($31) a splendid ride in the opener, the £80,000 (S$138,000) Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash (1,000m).
