Famous Aussie racing dynasty ends hoodoo in Brisbane's premier race with War Machine
The Hayes, one of Australia's most famous racing dynasties, have finally etched their name on the honour roll of Queensland's most iconic race, the Stradbroke Handicap (1,400m).
Ben Hayes and his younger twin brothers Will and JD have succeeded where their famous late grandfather Colin and late uncle Peter, father David, now based in Hong Kong, have failed for around half a century, albeit it is not a race often targeted by the Lindsay Park team.
The third-generation handlers themselves only had their first crack last year with Here To Shock who ran last to Stefi Magnetica.
Undeterred, they returned to Eagle Farm one year later, this time hitting the jackpot in the A$3 million (S$2.5 million) Group 1 race with a horse who walked into their Flemington yard only around a month ago, War Machine.
