Trainer Waller’s quality mare edges out stablemate Lindermann to retain her title
-

SYDNEY - Having eventually ended up on the right side of a gripping photo finish earlier in the meeting, trainer Chris Waller faced a less anxious wait when the judge was required to separate Fangirl and Lindermann in the A$1 million (S$845,000) 7 Stakes (1,600m) at Randwick on Sept 20.
The champion trainer prepares both horses. While Fangirl - the $9 favourite — was given the decision by a nose from Lindermann, Waller would have walked away contented either way.
Ridden by top Kiwi jockey James McDonald, the seven-year-old daughter of Sebring took off at the 250m to storm home, and eventually run down the leader and stablemate Lindermann (Nash Rawiller) for a Waller quinella.
“I actually thought Lindermann had won, but when it’s the stablemate fighting out the photo finish, you're not too concerned. Great result,” said Waller.
“It was an intriguing race. Lindermann was rolling along at pretty good sectionals and I thought, well, he’ll be vulnerable late, but he kept fighting hard.
