Why feedback fluency is the new must-have skill

In creative fields, success relies not just on talent but also on the ability to take feedback well.

- RASHMI M

Feedback fluency is the skill of understanding, processing, and applying feedback without losing the essence of the work.

Whether it's a campaign, design, or short film script, creative work goes through many hands and often vague feedback. Those fluent in handling it know how to listen, ask the right questions, and refine their work with clarity and purpose.

Why does feedback matter the most now? Whilst in the current times, when artists are longing to be known for their unique crafts, the real-world creative careers reduce individuality to just one part of the job. The real value lies in collaboration to channelise the individual ideas around a shared goal.

An artist may have built something in their distinct voice, but it now needs to be reshaped to fit commercial briefs, brand guidelines, production realities, and customer expectations. Some ideas will work. Some won't. And that's okay. The ability to accept, adapt, and collaborate effectively is what transforms good creatives into great professionals.

Shelved Knowledge

Independent India did not consciously ratify Macaulay's contempt; it did something less dramatic and more durable. It allowed the colonial syllabus to survive by inertia. Two centuries on, an Indian school-leaver can recite Newton's three laws and the Krebs cycle, but has rarely been asked, even in passing, to open the Aryabhatiya, the Caraka Samhita or the Arthasastra
