Opposition parties' protest is planned on 8 Aug over alleged irregularities in the Bihar SIR exercise
Opposition parties led by the Trinamul Congress (TMC) will stage a protest outside the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters in Delhi on 8 August, alleging large-scale irregularities in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The protest plan comes amid claims that lakhs of legitimate voters have been arbitrarily removed from the lists in several opposition-ruled states, including Bihar and West Bengal. The INDIA alliance, a bloc of over two dozen opposition parties, is expected to finalize the blueprint for the protest during a key strategy meeting scheduled for 7 August in Delhi.
