Budgam: Kashmir's first upcoming rail city undergoing massive expansions

As the Kashmir Valley is set for rail connectivity with the rest parts of the country through the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project and several new trains, including the New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat, Budgam is being developed by the railways as a rail city with massive expansions in infrastructure.
The mega expansion of Budgam has been started with the extension of the Budgam Car Shed which is spread over an area of 2000 kanals in local parlance or 250 acres. The shed presently has 12 train sets including two MEMU and the rest DEMU that are maintained at the depot presently. As learnt during a recent Press tour to the car shed, the shed has been extended to accommodate 12-coach rakes as compared to its eight-coach length.
