The Rotary Club of Calcutta is 107-year-old Service Club based in Kolkata andis the first Rotary Club set up in India way back in 1919. Referred to as The Old Number One, the club as part ofits activities has had people like Mahatma Gandhi, Sir C V Raman, The Dalai Lama, and Presidents V V Giri, Dr K R Narayanan, Giani Zail Singh address its members.
Through all these long years, theClubhas hada distinguished record of service to the underprivileged in disease prevention, literacy, women’s empowermentand environment. Itisnotablethatitis the oldest continuously running Rotary Club in Mainland Asia.
“Over the years we have supported underprivileged communities in various areas such as health, water and sanitation, education, women’s empowermentand environment; said a club member.
