Tension escalated when protesters broke into the Bikash Bhawan premises, clashed with police while trying to intensify their demonstration as many of them suffered injuries

With the date of issuing notification on fresh examination to recruit teachers by the School Service Commission (SSC) in sync with the order of the Supreme court inching closer, the jobless teachers besieged Bikash Bhawan today.
The secondary and higher secondary government school teachers, who lost their jobs, clashed with police when the latter tried to vacate the former from the Salt Lake premises. Many of them suffered injuries after the police lathi-charged, later in the evening.
A senior police officer said that they had to use force to rescue many of the government staff, who were stuck inside the Bikash Bhawan.
The officer said that many of the police personnel were hurt after being heckled by the protesters.
The demonstration at the headquarters was organised by 'genuine' teachers in state-run schools who lost their jobs following a Supreme Court order in the job-for-cash case.
