SC scraps 2016 teacher hires, WB schools in crisis

After Thursday's Supreme Court ruling on 2016 appointment of teaching and non-teaching staff by the WBSSC, around 517 teaching and non-teaching staff lost their jobs in West Burdwan district alone leading to a serious crisis to run the schools smoothly on a day-to-day basis.
The teachers, who lost their jobs, hail from Raniganj, Jamuria, Barabani, Salanpur, Chittaranjan, etc.
Twelve out of the total 21 teachers lost their jobs in Basanti Devi Girls School in Raniganj. There are 1,400 students in this school and the examinations are scheduled to start next week. Sruti Banerjee, the headmistress, said: "After the removal of 12 teachers the school now does not have any history teacher. It is really difficult to run the school."
