US slaps sanctions on six Indian cos over Iran oil trade

The USA has imposed sanctions on six Indian companies for their alleged involvement in the trade of Iranian petroleum and petrochemical products.
The Congress party on Thursday spoke in different voices on US President Donald Trump's 'dead economy' remark about India. While senior leader Rahul Gandhi justified the American leader's comment, his party colleagues, Shashi Tharoor and Rajiv Shukla, took a diametrically opposite stand.
Responding to US President Donald Trump's latest remarks, describing India and Russia as "dead economies", Mr Gandhi said Trump's statement reflects a global truth that only the Indian government refuses to acknowledge. "I'm glad that President Trump has stated a fact. The entire world knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy," he said while speaking to reporters outside Parliament.
Earlier in the day, in a post on his Truth Social handle, Mr Trump said: "I don't care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care. We have done very little business with India; their tariffs are too high, among the highest in the world. Likewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together. Let's keep it that way."
