SC's verdict on Governor withholding bills: Kerala CM says it upholds federal system and democratic rights of legislature
The Statesman Bhubaneswar
|April 09, 2025
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said the Supreme Court's verdict on the issue of Tamil Nadu Governor indefinitely withholding bills passed by Assembly upholds the federal system and the democratic rights of the legislature.
In a statement here, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the Supreme Court verdict upheld the federal structure and democratic rights of the legislative assemblies.
The Supreme Court verdict is being seen as a warning to the central government, which is using governors to restrain opposition-ruled states, he said. The verdict will strengthen non-BJP state governments to resist the move of governors to hold up bills indefinitely, he added.
