|December 10, 2025
Continuing their dominant run in the shortest format, India banked on an all-round show from Hardik Pandya to trounce South Africa by 101 runs in the opening match of the five-match rubber at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday.
With the win, India took a 1-0 lead in the series.Pandya emerged the star of the show, slamming a belligerent unbeaten 59 off 28 balls to first propel India to a commanding 175 runs on the board, before contributing with a wicket as the Indian bowlers put up a collective effort to skittle the Proteas out for 74 in mere 12.3 overs.
However, Shubman Gill’s much-awaited comeback lasted only two balls, as Lungi Ngidi dismissed the Indian vice-captain for four in the opening over to hand South Africa the perfect start. The visitors tightened their grip soon after, with Ngidi striking again in the third over to remove Suryakumar Yadav.
