ONLY a few months ago we had to record the death of Lady Bayley, wife of Sir Steuart Colvin Bayley, ex-Lieutenant-Governor of Bengal; and now comes the melancholy news that Sir Steuart Bayley has followed his wife to the grave.

Sir Steuart Bayley—the last of the Lieutenant-Governors—was close on ninety years of age, and retired from India so long ago as 1890. A member of a family which has given many of its sons to the service of India, he was educated at Eton and Haileybury. He was appointed to the Indian Civil Service
