Starlink directive raises questions about rule of law

THE ANC-led government says it wants to rebuild trust, fight corruption and to restore the rule of law, but the handling of the Starlink directive tells a completely different story.

Communications Minister Solly Malatsi signed off on a policy directive that would allow Elon Musk’s Starlink to operate in South Africa without following the same rules that apply to anyone else. It includes skipping BEE ownership requirements and the 30% equity rule in the ICT sector.
