Just 5 464 learners left as Gauteng placements tighten

GAUTENG Education MEC Matome Chiloane says only 5 464 learners remain unplaced in the 2026 online admissions process for Grade 1 and Grade 8, marking continued progress in learner placements across the province.
Departmental spokesperson Steve Mabona said the figure reflects sustained improvements in the system.
"As of Monday, 22 December 2025, the GDE Online Admissions system recorded a total of 5 464 unplaced Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners, comprising 1 478 Grade 1 learners and 3 986 Grade 8 learners," Mabona said in a statement issued yesterday.
