THE Proteas' crowning at Lord's, when Temba Bavuma lifted the ICC World Test Championship mace, marked a seminal moment in South Africa's cricketing history. It broke a generational curse and eased the burden on those who will follow.

It was therefore fitting that, in the first Test after the Proteas’ coronation, coach Shukri Conrad unleashed a couple of teenagers - Kwena Maphaka and Lhuan-dre Pretorius - alongside 22-year-old prodigy Dewald Brevis.
The trio represent the future of South African cricket - the next generation entrusted with carrying the Proteas torch.
Both Pretorius and Brevis showed no signs of nerves, with the dynamic duo making an immediate impression.
