Thousands turn up as city hosts 4 special parkruns

- Sentinel Reporter

RECORD numbers turned out to celebrate Stoke-on-Trent's centenary at four special parkruns.

A total of 2,407 runners and walkers took part at Hanley Park, Trentham Gardens, Longton Park and Burslem Park at the weekend. All four events smashed previous attendance records with 335 people joining a parkrun for the first time.

At Trentham Gardens, 1,454 runners took part in the 5km event on Saturday, making it the second largest parkrun in the country that day.

It beat their previous attendance record of 1,064.

Hanley Park - also 5km - welcomed 530 runners, while the junior parkruns on Sunday saw 243 children complete 2km in Longton - the second largest junior parkrun nationally that day - and 180 in Burslem Park.
