Call for referendum over plans to 'double' town in size
A REFERENDUM has been demanded by residents - amid fears new housing will see their town almost double in size.
A petition calling for Eccleshall to be protected from over-development has been signed by more than 1,600 people.
The issue was raised at a packed public meeting.
It included a map showing 10 sites around Eccleshall earmarked for development.
Developers Muller, Bellway, Taylor Wimpey and Bloor have submitted plans for six sites.
They include land north and south of Shaws Lane, between Stone Road and Stafford Road, south of Stone Road, and off Green Lane.
In total 1,534 new homes are proposed across the 10 sites.
