NOW that’s more like it. Vale picked up their first league win of the season after strike pairing Ruari Paton and Devante Cole both netted in a comfortable 2-0 victory at Exeter City.

Vale hadn't been turning positive performances into points but made no mistake at St James Park, looking in control from the moment Paton pounced to fire the ball past Grecians keeper Joe Whitworth on four minutes.

Paton then sent Devante Cole sprinting through to slot the ball past Whitworth in first-half stoppage time to give Vale an advantage they never looked like relinquishing.

Valiants manager Darren Moore said: “I’m really pleased for us all to finally get the three points.

“After the work we have been doing in the weeks leading up to this, it’s great to see the performance we have put in and the three points.

As for the first goal, he said: “We got the press and the pressure on the ball right.
