St Joseph’s College connection adds extra spice to match for rival captains

WOOD Lane captain Danny Brierley wants his side to remain part of the NSSCL Premier B promotion conversation as the season unfolds.
Brierley has masterminded an unblemished start to the campaign with four successive wins in the win/lose format to leave them setting the early pace in the division.
‘The former Staffordshire batsman is experienced enough to realise that there’s a long way to go before any honours are dished out.
But he's delighted with the start his players have made which has seen them beat Bignall End, Hem Heath seconds, Elworth and, impressively, Cheadle, who were relegated from Premier A last summer.
“It’s been a really good start. ‘The lads have done everything right and done their jobs,’ said Brierley.
“The Batters have been scoring runs and the bowlers have been taking wickets - it makes it a simple game when that happens.
“The top order have been putting totals on the board and someone has always gone on to make a score. That sets the game up nicely.
“We know we've got a decent bowling attack and it was our strength last summer.
“The batting was our downfall, but we've managed to get runs so far this season.
“We spoke about momentum after the game against Cheadle on Saturday. The first two matches of the season we were probably expected to win against newcomers (Bignall End and Hem Heath), while we are relatively established,
