'Students T up brighter future in construction'

The Sentinel

|

October 16, 2025

I'VE been teaching the T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning at Stoke-on-Trent College for just over two years. This was a new course for both the college and me, having previously taught at another higher education provider.

- Sharifeh Vatannia - Lecturer in T Level Construction and Green Technologies

My background is in civil engineering, in which I hold a bachelor's, master's, and PhD. Joining the college gave me an exciting opportunity to help shape the T Level programme with our curriculum team.

This work led to an outstanding 100% pass rate and 89% high grades with our first cohort of Construction T Level learners this past August.

It's especially rewarding to celebrate this success during T Level Week - a time to recognise the impact and achievements of this qualification.

Our learners have also seen success beyond the classroom. Many have secured full-time roles after completing their studies.

For example, Dylan Porter, who finished the T Level in design, surveying and planning in August, is now working full-time with his placement provider, Global Ceiling Services, as a junior project manager.

Vinnie Rogers has gone on to a degree apprenticeship with Bowmer + Kirkland, aiming to qualify as a quantity surveyor.
