VILLAGERS claim a pub is 'trying to become a nightclub' following a bid to extend its licence.

- Phil Corrigan

Charlie Bassetts, in Dilhorne, wants to stay open until 12.30am and play music until midnight, seven days a week.

It is also seeking permission to extend the licence to cover a patio and beer garden.

The application also requests a further hour for licensed activities and opening times on bank holiday weekends, Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year's Eve.

The sale of alcohol on Sundays, currently limited to 10.30pm, would also be extended to midnight, in line with other days.

Performance of live or recorded music at the venue, which has an adjoining campsite, is limited to 11pm, Monday to Wednesday, midnight from Thursday to Saturday, and 10.30pm on Sundays, with opening times limited to midnight.

Four villagers have objected, saying the requested hours would be 'inappropriate' and 'unreasonable' in a quiet rural village.
