Porter: Top-eight finish could be on cards if things fall our way...

MARK Porter is excited as Port Vale embark on another League One campaign and declared, “even if we lose games, if the players give 100 per cent they will be clapped off the pitch.”

The Valiants Supporters' Club chairman reckons the team is already a competitive one but hopes there are more signings to come between now and the end of the summer transfer window at 7pm on September 1.

Vale head to Yorkshire to face Rotherham United this afternoon and Porter said: “I'm looking forward to it but it’s like the unknown isn't it? We haven't been in the league in the last year and we have got to go back in there. The last time we were there on the first day we lost 7-0 at Barnsley but this time I think we will get a result.

“I think it's going to be a very interesting start and will be interesting to see what other players we bring in before the start and through the first month of the season.”

He added: “I think we still need two or three. I do think we need another goalkeeper as back up and a centre-forward.
