GRANDAD Eddie Leligdowicz took over his first McDonald's store 25 years ago - and now runs 14 branches in North Staffordshire and Cheshire.

- Sentinel Reporter

Eddie began his McDonald's career as a franchisee in 1998, completing his training at the Fenton and Hanley restaurants, and taking ownership of the Newcastle High Street restaurant a year later.

He has expanded his portfolio, which includes multiple branches in Stoke-on-Trent and employs more than 1,600 workers.

To mark his quarter of a century working for McDonald's, a surprise celebration was thrown for Eddie and his business partner and wife Maria. Current and former employees at the Newcastle site joined Eddie's family for some classic McDonald's menu items - and a celebratory cake.

Eddie, whose favourite dish is a quarter pounder with cheese, said: "I am truly touched that my team threw this surprise party for Maria and me. People are at the heart of our business and being able to celebrate 25 years of service with our family, our team and former colleagues fills us both with such pride.
