Findings of biggest youth consultation unveiled

'Now we must act'

THE biggest ever youth consultation has been carried out in Stoke-on-Trent as part of the city's centenary celebrations.

The project sought the thoughts, hopes and concerns of almost 3,000 people aged between 10 and 24 across Stoke-on-Trent.

It was carried out by the YMCA North Staffordshire in partnership with Keele and Staffordshire universities.

A report based on the consultation reveals a generation that is 'hopeful, community-minded, and eager to succeed'. But also grappling with serious barriers including limited opportunities, concerns about safety, a lack of inclusive spaces, and growing financial insecurity.

Key findings include:

■86% of young people feel supported by family and peers but report gaps in professional mental health services;

81% enjoy learning and want to contribute but feel unprepared by school systems that neglect life skills and job readiness;
