'Mural's legacy will be to inspire next generation'
The Sentinel
|September 20, 2025
LAST week's event to unveil the eye-catching 100 Years, 100 Faces centenary mural has been well-received across the city and beyond.
With many of those attending on the night taking the time to write in to the Stoke-on-Trent City Centre BID office, it has been heartening to read comments such as: 'The mural is fantastic but the film, the display, the storytelling and the sense of pride and community that Saturday evoked was just spectacular!
In the same vein, another attendee wrote about the mural being 'an attraction that will draw people to the city centre for years to come' before enquiring whether the launch film, which she described as 'a triumph, might be shown in schools around the city.
This is certainly something the BID team will look to explore with the city council and other partners.
I wrote in my last column how the mural is more than just an accessible, aesthetic public art installation.
It was conceived and created to be a living tribute to the inspirational individuals from all sectors who have backstamped their mark on Stoke-on-Trent's cultural identity throughout the past century.
