Modd duo steady the ship to aid their side's push for league win

Josh Palmer (17) and Tim Twigg (15) had made early impressions as the Modd men chased their 140-run victory target.

However, Ethan Sherriff's 3-28 and two wickets apiece for Toby Degg and Omar Ali soon had the Modd men rocking on 80-7.

But Womble and Palmer produced a key alliance to turn the tide.

Womble finished on 44 not out and Palmer added an unbeaten 21 as Moddershall & Oulton completed a three-wicket win with more than four overs to spare.

Earlier in the day, Joshua Rhodes' 60 had formed the backbone of Silverdale's 139-9 from their 40 overs.

Rhodes' innings included 11 fours and one six, with Degg weighing in with 22 not out late in the day.

Womble, the hero with the bat later in the contest, kicked off his fine individual day with 4-19, and Ben Housley scooped 3-38.

Cheadle seconds are joint-top after winning on their trip to Porthill Park 2nd XI.

Porthill Park took first use, but didn't make the best of starts as they fell to 19-4 and then 47-5 at the Old County Ground.
