Kettleborough: No table talk for Checkley

The Sentinel

CHECKLEY skipper James Kettleborough says he’s not taking any notice of the NSSCL Premier A table.

- Chris Travers

His side have reeled off five successive victories to move up to second in the standings - 10 points adrift of leaders Leek.

They're looking to make it six in a row at home against Audley tomorrow, but Kettleborough isn’t looking too far into the future.

In recent seasons, Checkley have managed to make solid starts, but have tailed off for a spell to scupper any prolonged title aspirations.

So Kettleborough just wants to focus on the next challenge put in front of his players as they attempt to maintain their winning streak.

“It’s a really difficult thing to do, to remain consistent, and the season is 22 weeks long,” he said.

“We're in a good position at the moment, but it’s pretty irrelevant where we are.

“At the end of the season, that's when it counts, and no-one is going to remember where you were after nine matches.

“We've got three or four really difficult fixtures coming up. We're confident, but you just have to break things down week by week.

“It’s about chalking things off game by game and seeing where we end up.

“We know, though, that if we play our best cricket that we can be a challenge for anyone.

Kettleborough says that there is no big secret to his side’s excellent run of form.

Instead, he says it’s just down to a real team effort which has enabled them to move up the standings.
