AT the age of 17, Lauren Kenvyn has already achieved plenty in her cricket career - but now she’s hoping to be a role model for the women’s game.

Kenvyn looking to inspire after taking on the lead role at Woore

Kenvyn was named as Woore first team’s new captain over the winter for their North Staffs and South Cheshire League Division Five campaign.

There have been previous female captains in local league cricket - Rachael Coxon has skippered Hanford seconds - but it is still a rare occurrence.

And Kenvyn is now looking to inspire women and girls after taking on the captaincy.

It's the latest accolade for Kenvyn, who has already achieved so much in the game since first picking up a bat as a five-year-old.

“I started playing cricket from a young age as my family were involved with the sport,’ said Kenvyn, whose dad, Andy, is a well-known figure in local cricket circles.

“I started playing under-nines for Woore, and worked my way through the age groups. I made my Shropshire Under-11s debut at nine, and continued to play for them and captained some age group teams. I made my county senior debut for Shropshire at 14.

“I also played senior cricket for Woore from the age of 12. I've also represented Porthill Park and Meakins Women's and Girls sections.

“I was fortunate to win six national titles with these teams, one being played at Lords, which was a great experience.”
