WHITMORE 2nds are a point clear at the top of Division Five following a tight 11-run victory over former leaders Rode Park & Lawton 2nds in the division’s match of the day.

Whitmore decided to bat first and they were indebted to Alfie Jackson for making 72 from 86 balls with 11 fours to hold the innings together. He was the only batsman to pass 20.

Rhys Chambers with 4-26 and A Hulme (3-23) saw Whitmore bowled out for 165.

Joe Jones (41) and Dan Forster (30) gave Rode Park a good start and they needed 22 from the last 3.9 overs with just two wickets remaining.

It proved to be too much and they were all out for 154 at the start of the final over. Four bowlers took two wickets each, including man-of-the-match Jackson.

Woore lost ground in third place as Whitmore 3rds did their 2nds a favour with a six-wicket victory.
