Speakeasy even has Al Capone's favourite food on menu

- Thomas Cooper

CUSTOMERS can try a taste of the American gangster era at a new speakeasy in Newcastle.

Classic cocktails, comedy nights and Al Capone's favourite food are just part of the attractions on offer at The Bookkeeper's Secret.

Owners Grant and Louise Pullen say they are 'really excited' for revellers to step into their boozy slice of yesteryear, which welcomed its first punters through the doors this month.

It is in the upstairs gin bar of the former Bar Social, next to Vue Cinema, which has since reopened as The Boulevard.

Grant and Louise, who also own Granville's in Stone, took over the business in March. Grant, aged 49, of Meir Park, said: "We absolutely love going to different speakeasies and secret bars, but we realised there wasn't anything like that around Stoke-on-Trent.
