Academic celebrates award-winning short movie
STAFFORD-BORN academic and filmmaker Erica Charles has won Best Animated Short at the Cannes Short Film Festival 2025 for her documentary The Stories We Wear - a powerful, research-driven animated film that shines a light on the plight of UK garment workers.
The film, which has already reached wide audiences and is gaining international recognition, is the first in a planned trilogy using animation and real testimonies to challenge injustices within the global fashion industry.
Erica, who grew up and attended school in Stafford, now lectures in London and conducts research in sustainable fashion and social justice.
