Policies ‘fail to recognise local pressures’
A COUNCIL leader has raised concerns over the placement of asylum seekers in communities.
Newcastle Borough Council does not have any asylum seekers in its hotels.
But the council does have an issue with the placement of asylum seekers in HMOs and short-term lets.
It comes as Epping Forest District Council has secured a temporary High Court injunction to stop 140 asylum seekers living at a hotel in its area.
Borough council leader Simon Tagg said: “There are no hotels in the borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme currently being used for this purpose.
“However we are monitoring developments in the wake of the Epping Forest ruling.
