Packed programme for free cultural event at city’s Potteries Museum

- Sentinel Reporter

Celebrating black history

DANCE TO THE RHYTHM: Fanti Acrobatics International at last year's Black History Celebration.

A SPECIAL event tomorrow will focus on the achievements of black people during 100 years of Stoke-on-Trent’s history.

The Black History Centenary Celebration is organised by the Kwanzaa Collective UK and takes place at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery.

The free cultural family event - which has been held in the city for the last two years - pays tribute to the art, music and food of people of African and Caribbean descent.

And this year to mark the city’s centenary, the day will focus on the achievements of black and brown people from the past and present day.

That includes black Victorians such as Tunstall’s Samuel Barber, former Lord Mayor Doug Brown and his footballer brother Roy, Guns n Roses guitarist Slash and England Lioness footballer Kerry Davis.
