Caverswall enhance promotion prospects with Wood Lane win
The Sentinel
|August 06, 2025
CAVERSWALL moved 15 points clear at the top of NSSCL Division Six after winning their top-of-the-table clash at Wood Lane seconds.
-
Hugh Rennie’s unbeaten 54, which included seven fours and three sixes, was the main contribution to Caverswall’s 231-8 from their 40 overs.
Chris Baranowski (45), Glen Moore (37) and Lewis Wright (23) were also in fine fettle for the visitors. James Bell claimed 3-27 for Wood Lane, with Ashley Guest striking twice.
Bell then made 68 - hitting eight fours and four sixes - in Wood Lane’s run chase. But despite Ben Forster adding 49 and Michael Leigh making 21, Wood Lane were bowled out for 188.
Baranowski fronted the Caverswall bowling attack with 4-21, backed up by two wickets apiece for Wright and Haydon Simcock.
Nantwich cruised to a nine-wicket success at Blythe seconds.
S Williams’ 5-11, allied to double strikes from J Howell and N Birchall, saw Blythe bundled out for just 70. K Jhangir top-scored with 25.
The Dabbers had few concerns in overhauling that paltry target as O Silvester struck seven fours and one six in an unbeaten 51.
