Odisha adopts integrated strategy to combat Sickle Cell Disease, says Dr. Brundha D

“WE know that in Odisha, the prevalence of sickle cell and thalassemia is higher than in other states,” said Dr. Brundha D., Mission Director, NHM, Odisha, during the World Sickle Cell Awareness Day event held at IMA House, Bhubaneswar. “With the support of our frontline workers, we've already achieved 75 per cent of our annual target of two lakh screenings under the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission (NSCAEM) 2047,” she added.

Organised by the Department of Health and Family Welfare in collaboration with UNICEF, the event underscored Odisha’s strong commitment to eradicating SCD through enhanced prevention, screening, management, and awareness — particularly in tribal regions where prevalence is high.
