‘Gang rape’ in Kol college shows female students not safe, claims BJP chief Sukanta
The Political and Business Daily
|June 28, 2025
UNION minister and BJP's West Bengal unit president Sukanta Majumdar on Friday claimed that the alleged gang rape in a law college in Kolkata shows that female students are "not safe" in educational institutes in the state.
-

Condemning the incident, the ruling Trinamool Congress said the police swiftly apprehended all three accused in the case and urged the opposition party not to politicise the issue.
Majumdar, the union minister of state for education, alleged that the law and order situation in West Bengal is "in a shambles" even though Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee takes care of the police (Home) department. After the rape-murder of an onduty doctor in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last year, the alleged incident of gang rape of a student took place in a law college in Kolkata, and this only proved that "female students are not safe in educational institutions” in the state, the BJP leader said.
