Tariff Commission Starts Safeguard Probe on Paper Imports

The Tariff Commission (TC) has started a formal investigation to determine if imports of corrugating medium paper should be imposed with a definitive safeguard measure to provide relief to the domestic industry.
In a notice, the TC said it launched the probe on the merits of imposing a definitive safeguard on imports of corrugating medium paper on Aug. 27, following its receipt of the request from Trade Secretary Cristina Roque.
Corrugating medium paper is being used in packaging.
As it conducts a probe, the TC is set to hold a preliminary conference on the matter on Sept. 5.
