Are we ready for the next pandemic? Five years since the onset of COVID-19, the World Health Organization says the world is not.

The official death toll from COVID, according to the WHO dashboard, stood at over seven million as of last December, with 2,307 deaths recorded in the 28 days to Dec. 22 alone. Experts believe the actual total is far higher.
At the start of this year, health experts have warned that the arrival of the next pandemic is not a question of if but when. The destruction of wildlife habitats and globalization of travel have facilitated the emergence and continuing mutation of killer pathogens, some of them still with no known cure, and their rapid spread across the globe.
