Reigning champion University of the Philippines lived to fight another day, fashioning out a 66-63 escape act versus La Salle to force a winner-take-all Game 3 in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball finals last night before a 22,412-strong crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Fighting Maroons refused to surrender their throne after bowing in the trilogy opener, leaning on team captain Gerry Abadiano’s heroics and the sticky defense of Jacob Bayla on Jacob Cortez for a gutsy Game 2 win that equalized the series at 1-1.
