Marcos orders sustained aid, road repairs after Uwan’s onslaught

A day after Super Typhoon Uwan battered several parts of the country, President Marcos ordered the continued provision of assistance to thousands of families displaced by the weather disturbance and the immediate repair of damaged roads.

At a Palace press briefing yesterday, Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said the Department of Budget and Management has approved the release of P1.684 billion to replenish the quick response funds of the Department of Agriculture, Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Philippine Coast Guard.

The move follows Marcos' directive to fast-track recovery and rehabilitation in calamity-hit areas during a situation briefing at the Presidential Security Command Operations Center in Malacañang in the morning.

Castro added that the Department of Health (DOH) has been ordered to deploy medical teams to evacuation centers, particularly in the Bicol region, which recorded the highest number of evacuees with around 100,050 families affected.

She also revealed that several countries, including Japan, Singapore, India, Timor-Leste and the United States, have offered humanitarian and disaster relief support.

Marcos also reminded agencies to sustain relief and rehabilitation operations in areas devastated by Typhoon Tino, which claimed more than 220 lives.
